Lettering can be broken into essentially three types: Engraved, where the letters are deep cut "V-cut" into the stone; Etched, where the letters are gently sunk into the surface, and; Raised, with the letters themselves having mass. There are many ways to alter each of these types. Changing lettering styles is simple but finding the right form & spacing for the stone is important in good design. All good monument & memorial makers have prided themselves on these time-honored principals. Well balanced lettering styles & designs are critical from small desktop plaques to large gravestones. Granite is one of the best & hardest stones for monuments & lettering & will last for centuries.
Irregular plaques can be either formal or informal for any setting or occasion. At least one flat bottom edge is
desirable but almost any shape can be created. All pieces are treated with the same respect for balance as any piece of importance.
Small irregular pieces generally fall in the $60. to $85. range + S & H.

Marble is a much softer stone than granite but is more suitable to be cut into custom shapes. This example was hand cut with the edges beveled & then lightly polished.
